CP/M Initialization Instructions
Instructions for use in preparation of "blank" disks. Note that
the system provided does support double sided disks, as well as
speak German, French, English and American well(CJP).
CP/M disks use a completely different format from TOS disks. In
order to begin using ST CP/M, you must use the MAKE_ME utility to
create a CP/M format disk which includes two important utilities:
INIDSK, which formats additional CP/M disks, and TOSCPM, which
lets you move files from TOS format disks to CP/M format disks.
First follow the directions for MAKE_ME.TOS below. Then run the
CPMZ80.TOS program to enter CP/M. Finally, use the TOSCPM utility
to copy the remaining CP/M utilities onto the CP/M disk.
You MUST be in medium resolution (color) or high resolution
(monochrome) to use ST CP/M. Low resolution will not work.
MAKE_ME DIRECTIONS
///////comments by CJPurcell/////////
1) Prepare a BLANK single sided Formatted disk.
2) Insert the disk containing Make_Cpm and the CPM data file
into DISK DRIVE A. /////otherwise 2) copy these to the blank disk!////
3) Click on the Make_Cpm icon to run the program.
4) When prompted, INSERT the BLANK disk into DISK DRIVE A.
//////4)using the copy, fortunately,let it run amuck & create/////////
5) When completed, you will now have a CP/M formatted disk///eventually//
to run with the emulator.
NOTE: There are several things that you should do before
experimenting with the CP/M emulator.
1) Prepare several new CP/M formatted disks.
To do this, run INIDSK <diskdrive>////////do as you are told//////////
At the prompt, INSERT a BLANK formatted disk into the
drive that you specified and press return.
You now have a new CP/M formatted disk! ///don't forget to inidir!////
2) Copy the TOS format CP/M files to your working CP/M
disks using TOSCPM.
The format is: TOSCPM <tosfile> <cpmfile>
3) Upon completion, you should put away the MAKE_CPM disk
and also the PSUEDO CP/M disk that was created.
From now on, you should only use your 'genuine' CP/M disks.
ENJOY! ///don't forget to inidir///
ATARI Corporation
//ATARI,America may have provided the download, but ATARI, England was better//
//CJPurcell; I wouldn't have made it without the completed disks from England//
//which I used for recovery when all else failed while reforming the download//
